Destination Spain
Destination Spain

Céline Hue dives into the very heart of Spain, with its mix of altruism and colorful ways.

Simple ideas to improve daily life initiated by slightly wacky dreamers. Spaniards sure don’t lack imagination!

Among her encounters are Sibila, a bona fide Telemadre. Just a phone call away, Sibila takes the subway to deliver her tasty meals to students who miss home cooking. An original initiative for her and other women to make ends meet.

As for Pascal Rovira, he’s got a soft spot for donkeys. He considers them part of Spain’s cultural heritage and has created a shelter where his protégés are well-pampered.

Renewable energies are a strong suit for Spain: Esteve Seret, cemetery director, had a this bright idea: install solar panels on the tombstones when there’s no room left elsewhere!

But without a doubt the prize for the biggest oddball goes to Juan Manuel Sanchez Gordillo, Marinadela’s symbolic mayor who defends communal living with passion and flair. Here, there’s housing for everyone and it’s not just an easy campaign slogan.

Destination Canada
Destination Canada

DIRECTED by: Myriam AKLIL

In a country where the culture is influenced as much by the Old World as the New, Celine Hue sought out men and women who fight to bring a better quality of life to their peers.

In Toronto, advertising executive Steve Mykolyn decided to put his creativity to use for the homeless, inventing a jacket which can withstand the country’s (sub-zero) polar temperatures. The «15 Below Jacket» was developed to be filled…with newspaper thus transforming it into a barrier against the cold. In Winnipeg, 14 year old Hannah Taylor has moved heaven and earth to aid the homeless. When she was only 8, she created the Ladybug Foundation. Today, she raises funds which she redistributes to forty-five organizations throughout Canada. In the Saskatchewan region, Bob Santo, decided to save the local ecosystem by reintroducing Plains Bison. An efficient alliance of breeding and protection of local heritage. In Quebec, Celestin Marcotte founded an organization which transports medication and medical equipment to poorer countries. The fifty or so volunteers have one particularity; they are all over 70 years old.

Destination: Argentina

The centuries of colonization and immigration that have marked Argentina have also made it a unique country, like a bit of Europe in Latin America. At the heart of today’s social ills, Céline Hue meets some very warm and endearing characters. In the Salta region, Emiliano Ezcurra has built a website which gives anyone in the world the chance to buy parcels of the forest and fight against deforestation. In Buenos Aires, the inmates of Florencia Varela prison repair broken computers before donating them to disadvantaged schools. Farther away in the suburbs, Dr. Jose Pellucchi founded Payamedicos, the clown doctors. An NGO where members take off their white coats and don clown costumes to break down the barriers that stand between them and their patients.
